ECB ACO Training Season

For all of you umpires and scorers out there, you know that when January comes around the training season arrives. Tutors up and down the country are preparing to teach the next up and coming umpires and scorers the skills they need ready to take to the field and box come April.

As County Scoring Officer for Durham I went down to the Emirates Riverside in Chester le Street today to see how the first training course of 2018 went.  You can watch my video on today’s session below.

About The Courses

There are a number of skills required to become a scorer in cricket and the ECBACO are here to help you get to grips with all of them from the very basics, to advanced techniques. Here’s an overview of the courses available and how they all fit together.

Introductory course

The aim of this course is to provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to record a cricket match. It won’t teach you everything you need to know, but it will give you the tools and confidence to get started.

Topics covered include:

  • Completing a scoring record
  • Recognising umpire’s signals
  • Standard scoring symbols

Email ecb.aco@ecb.co.uk for course availability.

Club Scorer – how to record a cricket match

Club Scorer is the course for anyone wanting scoring on a regular basis and is the only one to comprehensively teach you how to score. This course is suitable for complete beginners and existing scorers who want to improve their skills. On completion of the course you’ll receive an ECB ACO club scorer certificate.

ECB ACO Level 1 – scoring the game

Level 1 is open to any member of ECB ACO who’s completed the club scorer course. Not a taught course, this award is attained by scoring a minimum of 10 matches and getting some colleague feedback to go in your scoring portfolio.
